Module 1: Introducing Working Safely

The first module introduces IOSH and the Working Safely course, it explains the importance of health and safety and stresses the statistics that make health and safety so important.

It focusses on the realities of the suffering behind the consequences of poor health and safety and emphasises the importance of individual responsibility.

Module 2: Defining hazard and risk

Using familiar examples and an attractive graphical presentation, this module shows what can happen in the workplace and the consequences involved.

Delegates are asked to think about hazards and risks that they come across in their own workplace. Finally risk assessments are simplified and delegates learn to carry out informal risk assessments during their day-to-day activities.

Module 3: Identifying common hazards

This module explains all of the most common or the main hazards that are in the workplace including, entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise and the working environment, slips, trips, and falls, and manual handling. Each area includes examples, scenarios and useful summaries.

Module 4: Improving safety performance

Module 4 bridges the gap between management and workforce, encouraging delegates to get involved with processes that they would usually see as their manager/supervisors sole responsibility.

Other areas - including contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, proactive equipment, signage, emergency procedures, reporting and health checks - are all focussed on from the delegates point of view. All tackled in a jargon free and clear manner that is easy to follow.

Module 5: Protecting our environment

The final module briefly covers the key points of how organisations and team members can get involved in cutting down environmental impacts. You will learn the impact industry has on the environment, the benefits of improved environmental performance and the main elements of an environmental management system.
