Once you have booked your SSSTS Course:

On receiving payment for your SSSTS course, an email with your ‘course joining instructions’ is sent to you.

This document includes the following details:

• Your chosen course dates (this is a 2-day course)
• Course start time at your chosen venue
• Address of your chosen venue, including a map screenshot
• Details of what to do if you need any special requirements to complete the course

You need to bring photographic ID, such as a driving licence or passport with you.

Lunch is not included, so please provide your own.

Mandatory entry requirements

You will need to be able to read and write English to complete this course, there are no other formal requirements.

Special considerations

CITB allow "reasonable adjustments" to support delegates. This includes assistance from an invigilator, however adequate time must be given for arrangements to be made before the course starts. If you request support, details will be passed on confidentially to the trainer of the course to assess what arrangements can be made.

What is the CITB SSSTS Course?

SSSTS stands for Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme. After completing this course you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively supervise and manage safety on construction sites. By the time you have completed your SSSTS course, you will understand what is expected of you as a supervisor or manager, how you can make a positive contribution to health and safety on site and importantly, why you are being asked to keep high standards of health and safety.

Your CITB SSSTS course certificate will be valid for 5 years.

The CITB SSSTS course can be delivered face-to-face in a classroom or virtually via Zoom.

What will I learn on the CITB SSSTS Course?

You will cover the following content on the CITB SSSTS course:

• Health and safety law and regulations that apply to the construction industry and your legal responsibilities as a site supervisor or manager
• Promoting a positive health and safety culture on site and your role in maintaining high standards
• Understand the principles of risk assessment and importance of hazard identification
• Learn techniques for assessing and controlling risks on construction sites
• Develop the skills to conduct effective 'toolbox talks', safety briefings and clear instructions

The CITB SSSTS Course is a 2-day course.

CITB SSSTS Course Content

• Understand the problems of the industry when it comes to health and safety
• Understand how health and safety law is structured, and how it applies to supervisors
• Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the management structure in controlling the site safety
• Carry out risk assessments and understand the need for method statements
• Carry out effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
• Monitor site activities effectively
• Understand the importance of timely intervention when bad practise is identified
• An understanding of Occupational Health
• Fire prevention/control and other emergencies
• Hazardous substances (COSHH)

Assessment

At the end of the course you will be required to complete a test that consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. The first four questions are 'safety critical', which means that you must answer these correctly to pass the exam. You will be given 30 minutes to complete the assessment and you are allowed to use the Construction Site Supervision (GE706) publication during the last 10 minutes.

The Site Safety Plus Scheme provides the framework for the building, civil engineering and allied industries training and career development. The training follows industry standards and laws to make sure everyone knows the most important safety rules. The CITB SSSTS course is part of the Site Safety Plus Scheme.

Virtual CITB Heath and Safety Training

Virtually attend your CITB health and safety course from the comfort of your own home using Zoom classroom. The course is live with a real trainer teaching you in the same way as a classroom course. There are activities designed specifically for the virtual Zoom Classroom or Teams platform which will keep you engaged and interested. When you pass the course, you will achieve the exact same certificate you’d earn in a classroom.

What do I need?

All you need to attend a virtual course is access to a computer, laptop or tablet for the duration of the course, a microphone and webcam. Most laptops have a webcam and microphone built-in. If you’re unsure if you have the right equipment, we can arrange a short test meeting before you book or attend your course to check. You will be fully supported on you CITB Virtual Course.

You’ll join the course using a link in your joining instructions, the course is run on Zoom. Zoom is free to use, you can download it here but if you’d rather not download it you can open the meeting in your browser.
